What treatments are there for Sleep Disorders?
At Oklahoma TMJ and Sleep Therapy, we successfully treat sleep apnea, snoring and bruxism without surgery. Using Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT), we reposition the lower jaw and tongue forward to improve the airway, stopping sleep apnea and snoring. For bruxism, OAT will position your teeth so they can not clench or grind while you are sleeping. While these Oral Appliances are similar in appearance to athletic mouth guards, these appliances require specific measurements, fabrication and customized fittings for successful treatment results. See examples of Oral Appliances Below:

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine declared in the medical journal SLEEP (January 2006), that a first line of treatment for patients with mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea should be oral appliances. These appliances are very successful in improving snoring and relieving apnea. We advise conservative oral appliance therapy before undergoing irreversible surgical procedures.

If you or someone you love is suffering from a lack of restful sleep, please discuss your concerns with a TMJ and Sleep Apnea doctor trained in dental sleep medicine. He or she should do a comprehensive examination including:
  • Review medical and dental history
  • Evaluate airway function (using rhinometer/pharygometer and sleep studies)
  • Intraoral examination
  • TMJ evaluation
  • Cranial nerve evaluation
  • Trigger point and muscle palpations
